The Road to Moab is Open

Looks like the John Brown Road from Gateway, CO to the Castleton, UT area is open. We’re headed that way today.

We’re not going to go straight to Castleton. We’re going to take some other trails and end up down by the Colorado river wher we can hopefully find a place to camp.

We’re mooching wireless access from the general store here in Gateway at the moment. I didn’t think to charge my notebook’s battery before heading out today so I don’t have any time to upload new pictures. It will most likely be two or three days before I update again since we’ll be back-country camping in the mountains for a night or two on the way to Moab.

Gateway, CO is an interesting little town. It’s mostly a scary Mormon/redneck village with junk vehicles everywhere. The only exception is a brand new sprawling complex of simulated adobe buildings with a resort, general store, gas station and a couple of restaurants. It really is very picturesque, so I think I’ll finish up and take a few pictures while we take the dogs for a dump walk. There’s no Poop Loop or Shit Street here so we’ll have to be sneaky about it. ;)

If you’re curious about the road we’re taking someone else has posted photos on their web site that were taken earlier this month.
