Waiting for Winter

driveway in mud seasonI’m not a big fan of summer. It’s hot, humid and there’s bugs. The last couple of days I’ve been longing for the fall foliage season and looking forward to winter. I started looking though some of the hundreds of photos on my computer that haven’t been posted and found this one. It’s our driveway in April, otherwise known as “mud season”.

Weather.com Sucks

local weather screenshotWhy is weather.com never accurate for our area? I just don’t understand.

The screenshot above was taken a few minutes ago. The “high” today is supposed to be 82. It’s already 92 and it’s just before 11 am. I don’t get it. It’s not like this is a fluke either. They are consistently inaccurate with temperatures and forecasts for our area. The only good thing about the site is their radar imagery.

Why am I sniveling about the weather?

Uncle Tom’s Garage

I’ve been working on cleaning the garage the past few days. Why? I needed to find a 14mm box-end wrench recently and gave up after up after 30 minutes of digging through piles and boxes. I know I have at least six of these wrenches somewhere in the garage. The whole experience reminded me of trying to find stuff in my uncle Tom’s garage.

Life Almost Back to Normal

dell t7400 It’s been a little over two weeks since lightning blasted some of my stuff. My “computer” life is starting to get back to normal finally.

The new Dell Precision T7400 arrived. I’ve been working on getting it setup for the past few days. It’s a dual quad-core Xeon system so I installed Windows Server 2008, the SQL Server 2008 release candidate, Visual Studio 2008 and a whole host of other stuff that I need to do my job. I’ve never used Windows 2008 or SQL 2008. (I used SQL 2005 only briefly.) That’s all brand new to me but I’d like to jump into it as I get into .NET development. So far I’m underwhelmed with the software but the computer is screaming fast.

Getting Back to Normal?

lightning
When you’re self-employed and go on vacation for a month there’s always a ton of stuff to catch up on when you get home. That’s what I’ve been up to for the last week. Unfortunately mother nature threw me some curve balls mid-week that we a real pain in the butt.

Car Troubles Continued

We’re still broken down. The shop that’s working on it didn’t have any luck fixing it today and said they couldn’t source a replacement fuel injection line anywhere. I ordered a complete set from 4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton, Alberta. They are sending them via FedEx overnight. I should have them tomorrow. If the parts arrive early enough tomorrow we should be back on the road and home tomorrow night. I’ll be really surprised if FedEx does deliver them before 10:30 as the tracking info says.

At least we got to eat sushi again tonight ;)

Car Troubles

We ran into some car troubles today on the way to Connecticut. The number two cylinder high pressure injection line developed a leak at the injector fitting and was spraying fuel all over the engine compartment. I found the local doofus mechanic/wrecker operator and he “fixed” it with a horrible solder job. It lasted all of 10 minutes on the freeway before it started leaking again. We drove the remaining 140 miles to Hartford with fuel spraying all over the place under the hood. Thankfully diesel is less volatile than gasoline.

I hope to find a place to silver solder the line tomorrow so we can get back on the road.

Our Valley of The Gods Camp Site

valley of the gods overlookWe camped at a pretty spectacular spot for our last night in a tent. A friend recommended a location that overlooks the Valley of the Gods just 1.8 miles north of the Moki Dugway. Here’s some pictures and a quick video of our camp spot.
