Onion Creek Narrows Photos

We camped for a night in the Narrows of Onion Creek which are just northeast of Moab, UT. It’s part of the Colorado River recreation area. We got a $75 ticket from the park service ranger for camping in an undesignated site. We had no idea we weren’t allowed the camp there. There was a parking spot, fire ring and the people at the next camp downstream told us there was someone else camping in this spot the night before.

It’s kinda BS that we were given a ticket. When you drive in down the Onion Creek Rd. from Fisher Valley (which is east of the Narrows) there are no signs indicating that you have entered a restricted camping area with special rules. Our 4WD guidebooks didn’t mention this either. If you enter the Onion Creek area from UT RT 128 there are tons of signs describing the restrictions. There’s even a kiosk in a turnout with a map of the authorized campsites. The $75 citation sucks but it was the most scenic place we’ve camped yet.

Here’s some pictures. A pretty impressive view from our tent.

And a couple of videos.
