The long-awaited Land Cruiser BJ42 has arrived. It’s pretty amazing that it’s so easy to buy a car from the opposite side of the globe.
I barely fit in it. I’m going to need to modify the seat rails on the driver’s side so I can work the brake a little easier. At the moment I’m pretty cramped.
It started right up after I put a new battery in it. It runs a little rough when the engine is cold. I assume it’s going to be pretty hard to start when the temps are in the single digits.
I did a quick inspection of everything. I was a little worried at first that the front end was damaged. It’s just the “bull bar” on the front that’s tweaked. The frame appears to be OK. It steers straight. The tires aren’t worn in an odd pattern that would indicate trouble.
Today was the first time I’ve ever been behind the wheel of a right hand drive car. It’s a strange sensation. Shifting with my left hand is odd as well. It’s going to take me a while to get used to it.

Philo jumped right up into it. This dog really loves going for a ride. We took him and Cody down the street to a friend’s place on our maiden voyage in our BJ42.
It’s in better shape than I was expecting. There’s no evidence of serious rust problems. The paint is in good shape. It shifts smoothly. The 4WD works great.
More to follow….
