Rufus The Doofus

I haven’t had much time to post updates and pictures from our stays in Merida and Isla Holbox since returning home. I’ve been busy getting caught up on work stuff. I did want to share my Merida pizza experience though.

Don’t order sausage pizza in Mexico. We were out one night in Merida having a great time drinking oodles of beers and filling up on free botañas (random appetizers). We eventually ended up at Cafe Peon which is a comfortable French cuisine restaurant on the square in Merida. We opted for the outdoor seating to do some quality people watching and having a few more beers.

I eventually started getting hungry and decided to order the sausage pizza listed in the appetizer portion of the menu. That was a HUGE mistake. I was served a hot dog pizza. Apparently hot dogs qualify as sausage in Mexico. It was gross. I ate most of one piece and couldn’t continue. If you know me and how much I like pizza then you also know this pool of cheesy goo on my plate had to be really nasty. We ended up getting it boxed up to go and gave it to a homeless woman begging a couple of blocks away. I wonder if she ate it?
