Here’s us at Chichen Itza. Chichen Itza is one of the most popular Mayan ruins destinations for tourists in Mexico. The armada of tour buses start showing up around 10 am. Thankfully we were staying at a hotel right next door within walking distance. We were able to enter the park right at 8 am when they opened. It was the perfect time of day, there were no crowds and the weather as pleasant.
I was at Chichen Itza one time back in the early 90s with a friend of mine. It was a very different place back then. Visitors are no longer allowed to climb to the top of the main pyramid or most of the other structures. The jade jackal exhibit under the main pyramid is closed to the public as well. That’s a serious bummer because that was one of the most spectacular ruin experiences I’ve ever had and hoped to share it with my wife.
So here’s some photos from our morning at Chichen Itza.
