I’m almost done.
This steering knuckle rebuild business is really messy. I didn’t take many photos of the progress today because my hands were constantly covered in bearing grease. I went through three pounds of bearing grease installing everything today. There’s four bearings and a birfield joint per side that need to be packed with grease. The knuckle housing also gets it’s cavity mostly filled with grease. I must have washed my hands a dozen times and I still feel greasy.
I’m glad I did this myself instead of taking it to the local garage. Now I know that everything in the Landcruiser’s steering knuckles is new. There’s new swivel hub bearings, swivel hub wiper seals, wheel bearings hub seals and birfield joints. Basically all of the parts that can wear out have been replaced and I know it was done correctly.
Tomorrow I’ll get the brake shoes on and adjusted and be done with this mess of a project.
