Today we did about 820 miles from Ohio to Lincoln, Nebraska. Tomorrow we’ll head to Fort Collins, Colorado which will be an “easy” day at 500 miles. The area around Vail is supposed to get another one to two feet of snow in the next 24-36 hours which may close some mountain passes or require the use of snow chains. We don’t have chains so we’re going to spend a little extra time in Fort Collins and wait for the storm to pass.
We had originally planned that we would drive down to the Asheville, NC area and spend a little time there before heading west on I-40. The last few days of storms and tornadoes were enough motivation to rethink things and stay a bit more northerly. So we’re on I-80 instead. I’d rather deal with snow than tornadoes.
We’re enjoying the hospitality of the Super 8 tonight. The beds are comfy and I was able to back the car right up to our first floor window so I can keep an eye on it. The dogs are asleep already.
We’ll be in a hotel tomorrow night too but hopefully camping near Fruita, CO or Moab, UT the next night.
